Many Redshift customers are very happy with this solution from AWS except for those few queries that seem to run way longer than desired. Often the issue is with how the query is written and how it matches with the Redshift architecture and your data model. A rewrite of a few queries and small changes to your data model can create massive improvements in critical parts of your workload.

A prime example of this is a rewrite of a customer's analytic query improved its runtime from 90 minutes to 17 seconds. Query patterns that work fine on OLTP databases don't alway work well in Redshift's clustered, columnar architecture. There is often a better answer than throwing more hardware at it.
